Delta Air Lines Flight 1076 was reportedly struck by a firework as it approached Chicago’s Midway International Airport shortly before 8:40 p.m. Central on July 4. The airplane landed without injury to those on board and authorities, including the Federal Aviation Administration, are investigating.

The truck driver was arrested on a manslaughter charge and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances of the crash.
Scottsdale’s City Council unanimously approved a new ordinance giving police expanded powers to close short‑term rental properties used for large parties and to sanction both attendees and owners. The move, timed ahead of a high‑traffic holiday weekend, follows a surge in nuisance calls, charges and on‑scene incidents tied to rental properties.
Mesa will close its yearlong America250 observance with the free Willmeng Arizona Celebration of Freedom, a sprawling Fourth of July festival across the Mesa Convention Center and Amphitheatre campus. The evening will feature a new patriotic drone show of about 200 drones, expanded military exhibits, live music and performances, family attractions and a fireworks finale following a Salute to America program.
