About Us
Arizona Watcher - Covering the State That Never Stands Still
Who We Are
Arizona Watcher is an independent digital news portal serving readers across the Grand Canyon State since 2019. Founded in Phoenix by a team of veteran journalists and local advocates, we set out with a single belief: that Arizonans deserve timely, accurate, and unflinching coverage of the issues that shape their daily lives - from the streets of downtown Tucson to the rural communities of the White Mountains.
We are not a national outlet repurposing wire stories. We are Arizonans, reporting for Arizonans.
Arizona Watcher Editorial Team
Our Mission
To deliver honest, community-centered journalism that holds power accountable, amplifies underrepresented voices, and keeps every resident - regardless of zip code - informed and engaged. We believe a well-informed community is the foundation of a healthy democracy. That belief drives every story we publish.
What We Cover
Arizona is one of the fastest-growing and most complex states in the nation. Our coverage reflects that complexity:
- Politics & Government: State legislature, elections, ballot measures, and city councils
- Border & Immigration: On-the-ground reporting from communities along the U.S.βMexico border
- Environment & Water: The Colorado River crisis, drought policy, and land use across the desert Southwest
- Economy & Housing: The housing boom, cost of living, and workforce trends reshaping the state
- Education: Kβ12 schools, Arizona universities, and education policy
- Indigenous Communities: News from and in partnership with Arizona's 22 federally recognized tribes
- Business & Tech: The growing tech and semiconductor sectors putting Arizona on the national map
Our Editorial Standards
We hold ourselves to the highest standards of American journalism:
Accuracy first. Every claim is verified before publication. We correct errors promptly and transparently.
Independence. Our newsroom operates free from political or advertiser influence. Editorial decisions are made solely by our editors.
Fairness. We seek comment from all parties before publishing and present multiple perspectives on contested issues.
Transparency. We clearly label news, opinion, and sponsored content so readers always know what they're reading.
If you believe we've made an error, please contact us at corrections@arizonawatcher.com. We take every correction seriously.
How We're Funded
Arizona Watcher is funded through a combination of reader subscriptions, local advertising, and grants from journalism foundations including the American Journalism Project and the Knight Foundation. We do not accept political donations or funding from government entities.
We are committed to full financial transparency. An annual funding disclosure report is published every January on our website.
