Dispatchers received the call at about 5:09 p.m. for a working house fire near the intersection of Scottsdale and Thomas roads. When firefighters arrived at the scene, they encountered a single‑story residence that was heavily involved in fire. Crews immediately launched an aggressive interior attack and conducted a search of the home to determine whether any occupants remained inside. During that search, they located two deceased dogs.
As operations proceeded, fire conditions intensified. Command personnel shifted tactics from an interior attack to a defensive posture and requested a first‑alarm assignment to bolster resources. That request ultimately brought a total of 56 firefighters to the incident, who worked together to contain the fire and limit its impact on surrounding properties.
After deploying additional resources and repositioning crews, firefighters were able to gain control of the house fire. Authorities said the response succeeded in preventing the blaze from spreading to neighboring homes, a central objective given the residential nature of the area where the incident occurred.
Two Scottsdale firefighters received treatment from paramedics at the scene for heat exhaustion and were transported to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Officials later reported both were in stable condition following evaluation.
Fire department personnel and investigators remained at the scene following the suppression effort. The cause of the fire has not been determined; investigators continue to examine the property and the circumstances that led to the blaze. The fire was reported in the 7400 block of East Windsor Avenue, near Scottsdale and Thomas roads.
Fire officials said all occupants had made it out of the home before crews arrived and that no civilian injuries were reported.
Following the blaze, the Scottsdale Fire Department reminded residents to install smoke alarms on every level and inside bedrooms, test them monthly, replace them every 10 years, and practice a home fire escape plan.
