A house fire was reported about 5:09 p.m. Sunday near Scottsdale and Thomas roads; the call quickly escalated to a first‑alarm and drew crews from Scottsdale, Tempe and Phoenix.
Firefighters arrived to find a single‑story home heavily involved in fire. Crews launched an aggressive interior attack and during a search discovered two deceased dogs inside.
As fire conditions intensified, command shifted from interior operations to a defensive posture and requested additional resources; the assignment ultimately included 56 firefighters.
After deploying added resources and repositioning crews, firefighters were able to gain control of the house fire and prevented the blaze from spreading to neighboring homes.
Two Scottsdale firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and transported to a hospital as a precaution; officials later reported both were in stable condition. All occupants had exited before crews arrived and no civilian injuries were reported.
Investigators remained on scene and described the scene as active while they work to determine the origin and cause of the blaze; officials have not released further details on the dogs or property loss.
Further reporting indicated the fire originated in the garage and displaced a family of five. The Scottsdale Fire Department reminded residents to install and test smoke alarms and practice a home fire escape plan.
