Phoenix Gears Up for 38th Annual Fabulous Fourth at Steele Indian School Park

Phoenix will host the 38th annual Phoenix Fabulous Fourth at Steele Indian School Park on July 4, featuring family activities, a Veterans Village, a classic car show, live music and a 25-minute fireworks display. Public parking at the park is closed and multiple nearby streets will shut down during the evening; organizers are urging visitors to use the light rail and note that only service animals are permitted inside the park.

Phoenix is preparing for its long-running Independence Day celebration as the city stages the 38th annual Phoenix Fabulous Fourth at Steele Indian School Park. The event, scheduled to open its gates at 6 p.m., is being held in conjunction with the nation’s 250th birthday and promises an evening of family-oriented entertainment culminating in an extended fireworks presentation.

Organizers have lined up a variety of activities aimed at attendees of all ages. Children and teens can take part in inflatables and water slides and test their sweet-tooth mettle in an ice cream eating contest. Given the hot-season conditions typical of early July, the inclusion of water attractions is being highlighted as a popular draw for guests looking to cool off while still enjoying outdoor festivities.

For military veterans, the celebration includes a dedicated Veterans Village and reserved seating specifically intended for watching the fireworks display. City officials say the event holds special meaning this year as it coincides with the country’s semiquincentennial. “This is the largest municipal Fourth of July fireworks celebration in the entire state,” said Tyre Davis, a City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation supervisor. “We have a huge 25-minute show. This is going to be the biggest bang for your buck all throughout Phoenix.”

In addition to the scheduled competitions and attractions, the park will host a classic car show featuring vehicles from a local club, alongside live musical performances to provide evening entertainment. The mix of automotive displays and stage programming is intended to offer a range of experiences for visitors before the evening’s grand finale.

The fireworks display itself is slated to begin at 9:40 p.m. and will close out the night’s programming. Fireworks will be launched over the park as crowds gather on the lawns and pathways to view the pyrotechnics. Attendees should plan travel carefully. Public parking at Steele Indian School Park will be closed to the general public for the event. Organizers are encouraging people to use the city’s light rail system as the most practical means of getting to and from the celebration. In addition to the parking restrictions, several surrounding streets will be closed at designated times: Central Avenue is expected to close at about 7 p.m., Indian School Road at about 8 p.m., and Seventh Street at approximately 8:45 p.m. These staggered closures are intended to facilitate pedestrian movement and fireworks preparations.

Event rules limit what can be brought into the park. Only service animals will be permitted inside the venue; other animals are not allowed. Organizers have prohibited alcohol, skateboards, glass bottles and several other items from being brought into the grounds. Patrons are advised to review the full list of restricted items before arriving to avoid being turned away at entry points.

The city characterizes the celebration as a major municipal event and has structured the evening to accommodate families, veterans and community groups while managing traffic and safety concerns with specific closures and a restricted parking plan. Attendees should anticipate a full schedule of daytime and evening activities beginning at 6 p.m., and plan to be in place by late evening for the fireworks show that is scheduled to begin at 9:40 p.m.

The City of Phoenix lists the event date as Saturday, July 4, 2026, with the festival running from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Steele Indian School Park.

The city notes the park will be closed to the public on July 2 and July 3 for event load‑in; gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on July 4 when the festival begins.

The City strongly recommends taking Valley Metro Light Rail — enhanced rail service is scheduled to begin at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 4 — and asks attendees to preload funds on the Valley Metro app or use a Copper Card to avoid long fare lines after the show; two nearby stops are Central/Campbell and Central/Indian School.

The full list of prohibited items on the official event page includes drones, fold‑out tables, personal fireworks, barbecue grills, laser pointers, inline skates and kites; the park’s dog park will be closed July 1–5 and only certified service animals are permitted inside during the event.
