More professionals are choosing their workplace based on what surrounds the desk they book, not simply the desk itself. An analysis of a directory containing more than 8,200 U.S. coworking listings looked at amenity offerings across cities and placed Phoenix and Tucson in the national Top 10 for wellness-focused coworking options. The ranking underscores a growing emphasis on sport and relaxation features in the shared-office market and positions parts of Arizona as a notable presence on that front.
The study grouped amenities into four distinct categories meant to reflect what workers say they want as of 2026: pet-friendly perks, sport and relaxation, childcare support and EV charging. Researchers then scanned listings to determine city-level prevalence of those features. Sport and relaxation captured facilities and spaces such as fitness centers, lounges, rooftop patios and dedicated wellness rooms; childcare support included mother’s rooms, nursing facilities or on-site childcare services. EV charging and pet policies rounded out the set of attributes measured against national averages.
Phoenix stood out in the sport-and-relaxation category, finishing fifth nationwide. The city’s coworking market shows a heavy tilt toward wellness-focused amenities: 51 of 64 listed Phoenix coworking locations — nearly 80% — advertise one or more sport-and-relaxation features. That concentration of fitness rooms, lounges and outdoor amenity space pushed Phoenix into the upper tier of cities providing structured places for workers to exercise or relax during the workday.
Arizona’s presence is broader than a single city. Tucson ranked third nationally in sport and relaxation, while Scottsdale placed ninth, resulting in three Arizona cities landing inside the national Top 9 for that category. Those standings indicate a statewide pattern in which many shared-work environments are investing in on-site places for movement and decompression, rather than relying solely on traditional office conveniences.
Despite Phoenix’s strong showing for sport and relaxation, other amenity categories trail the national averages. Only 3 of the city’s 64 coworking listings — 4.7% — advertise EV charging, a performance that placed Phoenix about 15th on the EV measure. Pet-friendly policies are notably scarce: just 1 of 64 Phoenix locations (1.6%) permits pets, a rate well below the roughly 10% national pet-friendly figure reported across the dataset. Childcare-related amenities were also uncommon in the Phoenix sample; 2 of 64 listings (3.1%) offered mother’s rooms, nursing facilities or other on-site childcare supports, compared with a 9% national average for childcare features.
At the national level, the analysis found that approximately one in four coworking spaces — 25.4% — now lists standout amenities beyond basic connectivity and coffee. Regionally, the Northeast led with about 27% of listings reporting such extras, narrowly ahead of the West. The South registered the largest volume of amenity-rich spaces overall. Across individual categories, several cities emerged as leaders: San Francisco topped the pet-friendly rankings, Cambridge ranked highest for sport and relaxation, Minneapolis led on childcare, and Irvine came out ahead for EV charging availability.
The findings reflect a broader shift in how shared-work operators position their offerings. Amenity suites that include fitness areas, rooftop or outdoor patios and dedicated wellness rooms now compose a meaningful part of what many coworking locations promote to attract members. Where those wellness elements are concentrated, as in Phoenix and Tucson, cities can rise quickly in comparative rankings that emphasize sport-and-relaxation amenities. At the same time, other services that appeal to specific worker needs — such as child-care supports, robust pet policies and EV infrastructure — remain unevenly distributed across markets.
For Phoenix and the wider Arizona market, the result is a mixed picture: a clear strength in wellness and relaxation offerings that has produced national Top 10 placements, coupled with underrepresentation in pet-friendly policies, childcare options and EV charging. With three Arizona cities among the national Top 9 for sport and relaxation, the state registers as a notable center for coworking environments that promote fitness and decompression during the workday. The dataset used in the analysis draws from thousands of listings and highlights how amenity strategies vary widely across cities and regions as operators respond to evolving member preferences.
