A cooler pattern moves into Southeast Arizona this week, bringing daily chances for showers and thunderstorms; Monday and Wednesday are forecast as the most active days, with storm activity rising again Friday into the weekend.
A Flood Watch is in effect Monday afternoon through 10 p.m. for Pima and Santa Cruz counties, warning of localized 1–2 inches of rain and an elevated flash flooding risk where thunderstorms train over the same locations.
Storm coverage will be uneven across Southern Arizona: some communities could see widespread thunderstorm activity on the most active days while others may only experience scattered showers; intensity will fluctuate by location and day.
Temperatures will trend lower this week, dropping from recent readings 5–8 degrees above normal to near normal Monday–Tuesday, then about 3–6 degrees below normal Wednesday–Thursday before moderating later in the week.
As storms developed Monday, the National Weather Service issued multiple flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings for locations including Rio Rico, Childs and Eloy, with reports of heavy rain, gusts to 70 mph and ongoing flooding risks.
NWS radar showed 1–2 inches of rain between Green Valley and Corona de Tucson during Monday storms; flash flooding was reported in Box Canyon Wash, along the Santa Cruz River and Demetrie Wash, with impacts noted on Interstate 19.
After the heaviest rain eased, some flash flood warnings were canceled and local authorities, including the Pima County Regional Flood Control District, used MyAlerts and interactive maps to provide near‑real‑time streamflow, road closure and flood notifications.
