A traffic stop on July 29 at about 7:30 p.m. in the 200 block of South Dobson Road in Mesa began after officers observed multiple traffic violations and detained the driver.
The driver, later identified as 24‑year‑old Jesus Octavio Lopez‑Lopez, consented to a vehicle search; a narcotics detection dog alerted and officers found individually packaged suspected drugs and stacks of cash.
Information from the vehicle search led detectives to obtain and execute a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where they recovered additional quantities of illegal drugs, sales paraphernalia and more currency.
Authorities said the combined seizure from the car and home included 1,518 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 96 grams of suspected fentanyl, 15 grams of suspected heroin, and $5,733 in cash.
Lopez‑Lopez was arrested and booked on multiple felony counts, including possession of narcotics for sale, possession of dangerous drugs for sale and money laundering; bond was set at $25,000.
Investigators cataloged the seized evidence and noted the narcotics detection canine’s role in the discovery; Lopez‑Lopez remained in custody with a court date scheduled for Aug. 5.
