Pima County deputies are searching for a man after a pre-dawn July 20 home invasion on West Vegas Drive. The intruder forced entry through an unlocked door, physically and sexually assaulted the resident, then attempted a burglary before fleeing; no arrests.
Investigators described the suspect as Hispanic or White, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, thin-built with gray in his beard, and wearing an oversized green shirt when last seen. Deputies say he left the scene before officers arrived.
That description bears a resemblance to a masked person captured on a doorbell camera at Nancy Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills home; Guthrie, 84, disappeared Feb. 1. Sheriff’s officials said there is nothing to indicate the cases are related.
The FBI recovered cached Nest doorbell footage from Guthrie’s porch and released images on Feb. 10. FBI leadership said the cache recovery was urgent; the Pima County sheriff’s office said federal agents were notified and worked alongside local investigators.
FBI analysts estimated the person seen at Guthrie’s home was 5'9"–5'10", medium build, carrying a black Ozark Trail backpack. Authorities have not announced any nexus between that individual and the suspect sought in the July 20 invasion.
Detectives continue canvassing neighborhoods, reviewing surveillance and following tips in both matters. The FBI doubled the reward to $100,000 for information in Guthrie’s case; investigators reiterated that no arrests have been made in either investigation.
