Neighbors reported seeing people they believed were FBI agents searching desert brush near Nancy Guthrie’s Catalina Foothills home in the days before the six‑month mark of her disappearance.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the sighting created a stir but that no recent task force search had been carried out in the neighborhood.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen Jan. 31, 2026. Investigators have released images including a masked man and two handwritten ransom notes but have made no arrests.
Officials and neighbors noted the porous boundary with the Sonoran Desert, saying low‑growth brush makes comprehensive searches difficult and can leave only fragmentary witness accounts.
A retired FBI agent said revisiting previously searched areas is standard when new information, forensic methods or recalled witness statements emerge.
Family members, including Savannah Guthrie, have made repeated public appeals and offered a $1 million reward for information; investigators say the case remains active.
