Nancy Guthrie, 84, was abducted from her Tucson home in the early hours of Feb. 1 and remains missing, authorities say.
On Feb. 2 a ransom note addressed to Savannah Guthrie said, “We have your mother Nancy,” demanded millions in Bitcoin and warned she would be killed if not paid, noting specific items found in the home.
A second note received Feb. 6 told the family Nancy had died and been ‘buried in nature now,’ included an apology and tried to console the family; investigators released the full texts publicly.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said posting the two ransom notes produced only a ‘slight increase’ in tips; officials say every tip has been followed up but none has broken the case.
Investigators have also released FBI and surveillance images — including night‑vision, thermal and doorbell photos showing a masked individual near the residence — which they say prompted the modest uptick in calls.
Savannah Guthrie has made repeated public pleas for anyone with information to come forward, saying someone may recognize the handwriting, phrasing or other details in the notes.
Authorities say forensic testing found a mixed DNA profile from up to four people and trace blood at the home; a person was briefly detained earlier but no charges have been filed, and the FBI continues to assist the inquiry.
