A man was killed after being struck by an SUV just before 5 a.m. Friday near 16th Street and Brill in central Phoenix. Emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the pedestrian was crossing mid-block outside a marked crosswalk when he was hit by an SUV traveling northbound on 16th Street near Brill.
The SUV driver remained at the scene, was cooperative and was not believed to be impaired. Observers noted a Chevy Tahoe with visible front headlight damage consistent with a front-end impact.
Phoenix fire and emergency medical crews attended to the injured person and attempted life-saving measures, but the man died before he could be transported.
Officers closed 16th Street around the crash site to process the scene; traffic was blocked for several hours while investigators and city crews worked.
Detectives from the Phoenix Police traffic unit handled the investigation, made no arrests and have not released the victim’s name. The investigation remains ongoing.
