Infineon will close its Mesa semiconductor plant at 550 West Juanita Ave, terminating 98 positions as the site winds down operations by Sept. 30.
The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification with the Arizona Department of Economic Security on Aug. 3 to notify state officials and employees of the planned layoffs.
Infineon is shifting production of 6/8‑inch frontend epitaxy wafers to strategic foundry partners, a move that ends routine wafer manufacturing at the Mesa site.
The Mesa plant opened in 1997 and became part of Infineon after its 2015 acquisition of International Rectifier, bringing legacy wafer facilities into Infineon’s portfolio.
In December 2016 Infineon completed a multi‑million‑dollar expansion at the Mesa facility that added an 11,500‑sq‑ft Gallium Nitride cleanroom and warehouse space.
The Mesa closure follows broader manufacturing restructuring by Infineon, including the June 2025 sale of its 200mm Fab 25 in Austin to an external foundry under a supply agreement.
