Koa Peat was selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns and introduced at the team's practice facility in a new Suns No. 18 jersey, returning to the Valley where he grew up.
Peat called the moment full-circle, recalling that he followed the Suns as a child, was 10 when Devin Booker was drafted and attended the 2021 NBA Finals — formative memories that made the Suns jersey meaningful.
The selection took place June 25 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn; GM Brian Gregory said the organization was excited to add Peat and valued his familiarity with winning and competitiveness.
The Peat family has long ties to the Valley: Koa's father, Todd Peat, played in the NFL and spent time with the Phoenix Cardinals, a connection the Suns noted when introducing Koa.
At Perry High School Peat helped win four consecutive state championships and earned international success with four FIBA World Cup gold medals for Team USA; his high school coach highlighted his sacrifices.
Peat continued his rise at the University of Arizona, contributing to a 36-win season and a Final Four appearance; coach Tommy Lloyd said Peat's value exceeded where he was drafted.
Phoenix acquired the 30th pick in a multi-team trade and later obtained Peat's rights via a post-draft deal with Dallas; he signed a multi-year rookie contract and showed promise during Summer League play.
