Federal regulators singled out six Phoenix-area hospitals in a national enforcement campaign over compliance with federal price‑transparency rules.
The hospitals named were Banner Gateway Medical Center; BH Newco Hospital LLC (operating as Linda Behavioral Hospital, Scottsdale); College Medical Center Phoenix; Phoenix Specialty Hospital; Quail Run Behavioral Health; and Valley Hospital.
Those six were among roughly 519 hospitals nationwide that received warning letters or corrective‑action requests between April and early June as CMS pushed to improve price files and consumer cost tools.
CMS says many hospitals' machine‑readable files and consumer‑facing cost‑estimation tools have been incomplete, inconsistent or difficult to use, impeding meaningful price comparisons for patients and researchers.
Regulators use 90‑day warning letters and, for more serious cases, corrective‑action plans to compel fixes; CMS has issued civil‑monetary‑penalty notices and can assess up to $5,500 per day scaled by bed count for noncompliance.
Locally, patients and employers say difficulties in comparing expected out‑of‑pocket costs persist; Hospital Watch called for stronger enforcement and greater scrutiny of consolidation that may keep prices high.
